Concept 1 Academies is a 12-month Pre-Emancipation training academy that encompasses measurable Independent Living Skills, Workforce/Vocational training and educational development in an on-campus environment. Concept 1 Academies currently serves males and females ages 16-20. Concept 1 Academies is located on a 25 acre campus in Lunenburg County, VA.

Providing a full menu of foster care and social services, Concept 1 Academies residential training/education program incorporates Independent Living Life Skills training, new technology in our "cyber high school" regular academic program or GED prep and 7 workforce skills development and vocational training programs. Our expanded, hands-on Independent Living training program meets and exceeds the current Federal mandates of the 1999 Chafee Foster Care Independent Living Program for local social service agencies.

The vision for foster care services is placement of all foster care teens in individual, caring foster home to provide a stable foundation for their future. Unfortunately, national studies continue to present data that shows that many emancipated foster care teens do not succeed after leaving care due to lack of independent living life skills, inadequate job skills preparation and lack of education. The mission of Concept 1 Academies is to provide the tools and training that will allow our older foster care teens to succeed, both in placement in individual foster care homes and after emancipation from care.
